IF YOU HAD ONE BIT OF NBN ADVICE WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Place your NBN Internet Plan order well ahead of the copper cut off period. Recent experience has been quite a few customers leave changing to the last few weeks of the copper cut off period. During the last few weeks of the copper cut off there are more bottle neck and delays than usual and we have seen some business have their lines cut off before their NBN order was ready.

We are not suggesting you arrange your NBN internet plan immediately unless your area is RFS (Ready For Service)  but its best if you don’t leave to till the last month until the copper cut off either. By leaving it to the last month before the copper cut off period your cutting it fine and increasing the risk of being without phone and internet services.

HOW FAST IS THE NBN?

Theoretically the fastest NBN plan has around 4-5 times faster download speeds than the fastest ADSL plan…theoretically that is. We are seeing most of our 100Mbps plans achieving 85-90mbps download speeds and around 30-35mbps upload speeds.

Compare that speed with our ADSL plans typically getting 7-14mbps download speed and 400-800kbps upload speeds and you can see that it is much faster.

At some point in future the NBN co will introduce faster speeds which theoretically could reach 1Gbps download speeds.

Heres some examples of the difference between an ADSL 2 service and a NBN 100/40 service

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR AN NBN CONNECTION TO BE INSTALLED?

All things going well you should be able to have an active NBN connection 2-4 weeks after your areas ready for service date (RFS). Some sites within the RFS area can take substantially longer with multi tenanted commercial premises usually being the last to have services available.

WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR PHONE LINES AFTER WE HAVE AN NBN CONNECTION?

Your phone lines will be disconnected around 18months after your site is ready for service regardless, if you have arranged an internet/voice service over the NBN or not. There is no stay on copper option. You have to take some action to avoid having your copper cut off.

CAN I CHOOSE TO KEEP MY PHONE LINES?

No. Your PSTN services will be disconnected at the nominated cut off date for your site. However ISDN 2 and ISDN 102030 services will remain in service for the foreseeable future. So you don’t want to end up losing your phone lines. So you have to do something…there is no do nothing option.

Thats why we suggest planning your transition to the NBN.

WHAT IF I HAVE MORE THAN 1 PHONE LINE?

On the NBN device there is 2 Voice Ports. These can be used for multiple phone calls but Line Hunt is not available yet. If you need more than 1 line our advice is to install a NBN Phone System or add SIP trunks to your existing PBX Phone System.

WHAT WILL I HAVE INSTEAD OF PHONE LINES?

Many customers are choosing to have a data only (internet) service. If you want to have a phone line there are several options. For a single line service you can have the UniV Port on the NBN service activated. This is fine for a single line or for a Fax machine and some alarms.

However if you need more than 1 line you will need to activate either SIP trunks or a Hosted PBX.

Or you can choose to have no lines. Its up to you!.

HOW DO I MANAGE THE TRANSITION TO AN NBN INTERNET SERVICE?

If you just need a data connection switching to the NBN can be fairly simple. However if you have a Phone System, Eftpos, Alarm, Fax or have an Network, things get a bit more complex and planning needs to go into your transition to the NBN.

To manage the transition to NBN Broadband You will need to coordinate and manage the following services…

We can assist you in coordinating the transition to NBN with all of these services. We talk to your existing suppliers and coordinate their activities on your behalf.

CAN I GET SIP TRUNKS OR HOSTED PBX FROM THE SAME SUPPLIER?

Yes we can supply NBN Internet Plans,, SIP trunks and Hosted PBX services saving you the hassle of dealing with multiple providers. This way if there is any issue its easier to troubleshoot with out the blamenado (thats circle of blame!) that happens with multiple providers involved.

I’VE GOT A BUSINESS. HOW WILL NBN HELP ME?

The possibilities for many business are endless. Heres a few examples..

Many business are hand cuffed by slow internet. NBN Internet Plans are planned to deliver at least 25mbps download speeds to 98% of Australian businesses and over 93% of Australian business will benefit from speeds up to 100mbps over Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)and Fibre to the Node (FTTN) Networks.

IF I TAKE A NBN INTERNET PLAN WILL MY PRICES BE EXACTLY THE SAME AS BEFORE?

Depending on the speed you choose, some NBN services may be cheaper, but in many cases where you choose the faster speeds, the NBN Internet Plans will cost more than your PSTN and ADSL services. Some of these increases may be off set by lower call rates and possible reduction in phone lines.

In short if you want to go on a lower speed plan your prices should be about the same but you will pay more for a faster NBN Internet Plan.

DO I HAVE A CHOICE OF NBN INTERNET PLANS WITH DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND DOWNLOADS?

Yes Telaustralia has a choice of NBN Internet Plans to meet any budget or business requirement.

CAN I KEEP MY OLD PSTN & ISDN NUMBERS?

Yes we can port PSTN and ISDN numbers on  to SIP trunks or Hosted Phone systems. Its relatively simple but can take 4-8 weeks. We can also port numbers for other VoIP providers.

WHILE WE ARE IN TRANSITION TO NBN BROADBAND CAN MY NUMBERS BE FORWARDED IF NEED BE?

Yes. Your existing number can be forwarded during any porting process to another site, mobiles. home or to a Hosted PBX or SIP trunk service.

IF I MOVE TO NBN BROADBAND WILL I HAVE TO PAY OUT MY INTERNET CONTRACT?

You may be liable for an early termination charge for ADSL & Phone services. We suggest you don’t enter new contracts during that lead up to Ready For Service.

CAN I GET TRAFFIC CLASS 1 NBN SERVICE FOR REAL TIME APPLICATIONS?

Yes you can.

WILL MY PHONE LINES BE DOWN WHEN I TRANSITION TO THE NBN?

In most cases no but we have heard of some sites that have been left without service for weeks when there has been a construction error and cables severed or withdrawn before the new service was ready.

WILL MY FAX MACHINE WORK OVER THE NBN?

Yes most fax machines that support  T.38 Fax protocol will work. You may need to employ your fax technician to come to site and adjust your fax. Most fax machines need to have the Baud rate adjusted to 9600.

WILL NBN CO PAY FOR MY FAX TECHNICIAN TO COME TO SITE?

No they wont. They will provide cabling to the NTD and then all cabling after that point is the customers responsibility.

CAN YOU FIND OUT OF MY EXISTING PHONE SYSTEM WILL WORK OVER THE NBN?

Yes. We will work with your Phone Technician or supplier to establish a solution. If the Phone System is compatible you may need additional hardware and your supplier can price that for you. If the system cannot be modified to work, it may be possible to add an ATA.

Failing that, you may need to purchase a new NBN compatible Phone System.

IF I NEED A NEW PHONE SYSTEM OR ADDITIONAL HARDWARE WILL NBN CO PAY FOR IT?

No. Customers hardware is 100% the customers responsibility.

WILL NBN PAY FOR ANY INTERNAL CABLING I NEED?

No.

WILL I NEED A NEW ROUTER OR MODEM FOR THE NBN?

Yes you will require an Ethernet Router. Your ADSL modem will not work.

Telaustralia’s NBN Free installation comes with a network gateway device as part of the installation package.

WILL MY NETWORK NEED TO BE RECONFIGURED?

Most probably yes. You will be allocated a new Static IP and your IT person may be required to configure your new network.

WILL NBN CO PAY FOR ANY IT SERVICES I NEED?

No they wont. Internal network settings, configuration and management are the customers responsibility.

WILL MY ALARM WORK OVER THE NBN?

We recommend you contact your alarm company and they should be able to advise you on the correct course of cation to take with your alarm system. We will work with the Alarm company prior to and once the NBN Internet connection is active.

We are finding that many customers are choosing to take a 3G Alarm option.

IF I HAVE TO PAY FOR A NEW ALARM SYSTEM WILL NBN CO PAY FOR IT?

No. If your current alarm is not NBN compatible any costs associated with replacing it are the customers resposnibility.

WILL MY EFTPOS MACHINE WORK OVER THE NBN?

There are several types of Eftpos machines.

Contact your Eftpos Supplier and ask them what type of machine you have and they can advise on the best course of action.

IF I HAVE TO GET NEW EFTPOS MACHINES WILL NBN CO PAY FOR IT?

No. Sorry but any new equipment is the customers responsibility.
