A Fibre Optic Internet installation is a complex process. If everything is in order, installs are rarely more than 60 business days. Where network upgrades, commercial works are required & faults or internal cabling issues are found, this lead-time can be impacted, sometimes by months.
The following details what to expect with your Fibre Optic Internet order.
There are 5 main steps in the Fibre Install process.
This takes place before you place your order. A Desktop design is done to determine if any Special Linkage fee is payable for the installation.
You will be given an estimate of any Special Linkage fee and will need to accept this fee before placing an order and signing any contract.
The provider will provide you with the required paperwork. Due to the $ commitment on theses services, the contract must be signed by a authorized director or manager.
The Site assessment Team will
If the site assessment determines additional lead in cabling, on site Commercial Works or additional Internal cabling are required these are at the customers expense.
Fibre delivery can take up to 60 business days if there is no Network Boundary Point Extension or Commercial works required. If the Fibre needs to be delivered beyond the Network Boundary Point or any other Commercial works are required, you will be provided with a quote to perform these works. Both these activities are contestable so you can also arrange your own contractor’s to perform these works. These works will add additional time to your order.
When ordering any business grade data connection, It is critical to supply correct address including suite, unit, factory, shop numbers, floor level and street address for the initial site check. Any change to the order address, will mean an entirely new order will need to be placed, starting the time frames over and will lead to an order cancellation fee on the original order. The minimum order modification fee you will be charged for incorrect address is $500 ex gst. So its best to get this detail 100% accurate before submitting the order.
To assist in providing the correct address it will assist if you can provide us with an active PSTN Phone Number (eg your fax or your current internet phone line) at the actual site if available. A Site Plan Allotment number can also help.
There are certain requirements the carriers insist on before fibre delivery can be completed.
The pipe from the street pit/manhole into your building is known as the lead in. If this pipe is of an insufficient size or does not allow access to the negotiated rack location you will be required to provide a suitable lead in. Telstra can arrange for the lead in work to be done at commercial rates or you can arrange your own contractors to carry out the works
The service will be delivered from a carrier owned and maintained single sided cabinet which will be located in a position that will be negotiated with you by the carriers optical fibre designer. The footprint of the cabinet is 600mm x 365mm and to comply with Australian Communications Authority (ACA) regulations requires 900mm clearance in front of the rack. Depending on the number of services you require and space requirements, the height of the rack will be 1375mm, 1800mm or 2200mm. In special cases, at the carriers discretion a double sided rack may be supplied. This rack has a footprint of 600mm x 610mm and is available in the same heights as a single sided cabinet. You must not install, or authorise to be installed, any non-carrier equipment in the carriers cabinet.
Once the cabinet is installed the carrier will.
Optical Fibre Termination Unit. (OFTU) In some cases an OFTU is required to be installed in your building. This is used to distribute fibre and is usually supplied in larger sites such as university campuses and hospitals. OFTU’s are supplied in various sizes and are usually mounted on a wall in your communications/ PABX/ computer room. The most common OFTU used is 320mm x 270mm x 85mm. If an OFTU is required the Carriers optical fibre designer/Telaustralia will advise you.
The cable from the rack should terminate on your Main Distribution Frame (MDF)/Building Distribution (BD). The standard charge for installation includes cabling up to a maximum of 7 metres from the Telstra rack to the MDF/BD. If the distance of the rack from the MDF/BD exceeds 7 metres, an additional fee (Fee For Service (FFS)) may be charged.
If you require the rack to be located away from the MDF/BD, this will be negotiated on a case by case basis between you and the carriers optical fibre designer. Fee For Service charges may apply. If you require the service to be terminated in a non-standard fashion, such as on RJ45 terminations in a computer network rack, this will be negotiated on a case by case basis between you and the carriers installation technician. Fee For Service charges may apply.
Once the rack has been delivered to your site it is your responsibility to arrange a registered electrical contractor to carry out the electrical works.
The required electrical works are:
Testing of the service takes place to ensure performance and reliability before the is service handed over top the end user. This may take up to 10 business days after the Fibre installed.
POTENTIAL ADDITIONAL COSTS DURING FIBRE OPTIC INTERNET INSTALLATION
To address these issues prior to ordering, we advise it’s worth having a professional data cabler do a Pre Fibre Installation Site Audit. Its not normally more than $150-$300 for a Site Audit, but can help avoid expensive surprises after the Fibre order has been placed. If you with draw the order after the site assessment due an $1600inc gst order withdrawal fee will apply.
The service is delivered with a single Static IP. If you require additional IP addresses or block please let us know.
You may BYO your own router and we will provide the IP details allowing you to self configure your Router.
Alternately we can supply and charge you for a Fibre LAN router. The charges for the router and any extended router warranty you purchase will appear on your first invoice, which may be prior to the service going active. The router must be paid for before it will be dispatched.
The customer is responsible for installing the router and connecting it to the NTU.
If you BYO router, we will supply you with the required IP details for the Service, and our Ethernet Premium Products Team 1300783528, can provide advice, however we are unable to provide full support. (e.g We cannot remote log in and configure to BYO routers). We strongly suggest you use an IT professional for this task if you BYO router.
On Telaustralia supplied Routers, Our Technical staff will log in and configure the Router once the FIBRE service is activated.
If your new site has the same network fibre available we may be able to arrange a relocation of your service if required within the contract term.
Please be aware that relocation can be expensive.
You may be charged a Special Linkage Charge to deliver the service to the new site in addition to service relocation charges which can be up to $10000.
Please contact us if you are considering relocating as early as possible in the process so we can provide advice on your new site.
** Order cancellations. If the order is cancelled before completion, a
substantial order cancellation charge will appl,y even if the order has recently been lodged. The cost of the order cancellation charge will depend on the point the order has reached prior to cancellation but will be a minimum $1600 and could be up to your full monthly access fee x 36mths.
During the installation process, If installers attend the site and are unable to complete the order due to insufficient internal cabling, unable access the site or no one in attendance at time of appointment, a call out reschedule fee of $195 ex gst will be charged to your account.
If you cancel the service before the end of the contract period a termination fee equal to your monthly access fee multiplied by months remaining in the contract period will be charged.
Eg If your monthly access fee is $500 inc gst and you cancel the service with 10 months remaining, the early termination charge would be $5000 inc gst,
Installation of Fibre optic Internet should be done within 60 business days. However If there is any Network upgrade, Lead in Upgrade, Commercial works or other infrastructure shortfall this time frame can be extended.
