Its a question we have been getting from our larger customers. In the short term nothing will change even if the NBN is rolled out in your area, as ISDN 102030 Phone lines and ISDN 2 services are part of what Telstra calls Special Services.
ISDN services will however come under commercial pressure from more cost effective alternate services such as SIP trunks which can be delivered typically at half the price of ISDN once there is an adequate Internet Connection at the site, and the NBN by any measures should deliver adequacy in spades when compared to current services.
This will also apply to ISDN 2 services and any other services with a DID range.
Considering ISDN 102030 customers are typically at the high end of the SME and corporate markets, the saving potential to switch to SIP trunks will be immense, not to mention the flexibility and scalability that SIP trunks will bring.
SIP Trunks can be added and subtracted almost instantly when required without on site installation or network technician visits. Need an extra 10 channels this month, call and connect within an hour. Need 10 less channels next month, call and services are disconnected within minutes with out any physical involvement.
