OPTUS MULTI LINE CASE STUDY- MOVING FROM TELSTRA ISDN 2 TO OPTUS MULTI LINE

Our customer is a mid sized cleaning contractor located on the North Shore in Sydney. They were expanding and relocating to new premises and currently had 3 X Telstra ISDN 2 services with 100 number range costing them around $260 per month in line rental.

Their requirements were as follows:-

  • Minimal or no down time on their advertised number
  • Reduce costs
  • Increase the number of lines available for calls
  • Keep full Phone System functionality
  • Keep their current advertised number at the new site – new site was at a different exchange

We reviewed their usage and spoke with their Phone System maintainer and found that their existing Phone System was capable of taking a primary rate card enabling access to ISDN 10.

We then reviewed usage and expenditure, and determined that switching to an Optus Multi Line with 10 channels would give them an additional 4 channels for voice calls and scope to scale up if the need arose. Cost savings on line rental alone would be around $70 per month and call charges would save another $2-300 per month. We then established that we could port one of their old PSTN (now ISDN number) on to the Multi Line service.

After porting the existing number in we set up a porting request to have their advertised number ported on the Multi Line Service once it went active.

That was the plan. How did it all go? The new Multi Line Service service was delivered in 26 working days. The only real issue’s were 4 days lost in the design stage where the new site had to be checked for lead in capacity and then on the actual planned install date, the Optus Contractor did not call ahead and attended the new site with no one in attendance. Rescheduling added another 2 days to the job.

The port was planned for 3 weeks later when the actual Company move would take place. Despite some shortfall in communication from the carrier, the port went through on the afternoon as planned, 16 working days after the port was ordered.
