We hear this question a lot.

Many Small Business are moving their local Web and Mail Servers to Cloud Computing providers to save on hardware and support costs and deliver better functionality. With increased use of remote access and Hosted Exchange Email, Hosted CRM and Accounting packages it makes great financial sense for business to specialise in what they do and outsource their IT to experts.

However, once the move to a Cloud Based service has been made another issue often arises.

Most business will typically access their remote service using an ADSL internet connection. The A in ADSL Internet stands for Asynchronous …meaning faster download speeds than upload speeds. A typical ADSL 2 Connection will have down load speeds of up to 20mbps but upload speeds are limited to a maximum of 1mbps and in the real world the actual speeds achieved are usually quite slower. Uploads speeds of 300-500Kbps would be fairly typical.

And its with the upload speeds where the bottle neck occurs.

If multiple users are trying to upload large files or remote access a server then things will slow down. There isnt enough bandwidth capacity available for all the data being sent …the Internets version of a gridlocked freeway. The only real answer to getting faster upload speeds in Australia is to install a SHDSL Midband Ethernet connection.

SHDSL stands for Synchronous High Speed Digital Subscriber Link. The emphasis being on Synchronous so that with a SHDSL service you get the same upload and download speeds.

SHDSL has many speed options starting at 1mb/1mb and working right up to 100mb/100mb speeds and this will resolve speed issues in most cases. Services are available as both dedicated and shared connections. With a dedicated connection 100% of the available bandwidth is available the the end user. The end user is the only customer on the connection. This is called a contention Ratio of 1:1.

Telaustralia has range of SHDSL networks available giving a range of quality, speed and cost options to the end user. Our SHDSL network options include Telstra BDAS Midband Ethernet, AAPT IP Line SHDSL and Soul EFM SHDSL.
